The best candidates for a tummy tuck are men and women who are bothered by loose abdominal skin that will not respond to dieting or exercise. This surgery is very popular for women who have experienced multiple pregnancies and in doing so have stretched their abdominal skin and loosed their muscles where it can not return to normal.
Dr. Ward requires you to come to the office the day before surgery and bring your panties or swimsuit to allow him to mark the location of the scar placement. In doing so this insures the placement of the scar is well hidden even with low cut bikinis. After surgery, the scar is treated with scar cream greatly advancing the fading process of the scar. Often patients have found that the flatter tighter tummy is well worth the scar from the procedure.
EXPLANATION OF THE SURGERY
A full tummy tuck usually takes about two to three hours for Dr. Ward to perform under general anesthesia. A tummy tuck is performed by making a horizontal incision then separating the skin from the abdominal wall all the way up to the ribs. After separating the skin, he then tightens the loose muscles this effectively tightens the abdominal wall. In addition, liposuction is executed on the upper abdomen area giving you a waistline with a toned and natural shape.
RECOVERY
Your tummy will be be swollen for a few weeks. Pain and discomfort are for first week and controlled by pain medication or a pain pump. Most people return to work after two weeks with no heavy lifting.
