Augmentation
DR WARD:
"My philosophy for breast augmentation surgery is to provide you with a successful, safe operation that meets or exceeds your expectations". I truly enjoy performing plastic surgery operations and take pride in my results. Breast augmentation patients often refer to me as a “perfectionist” and I strive to keep this reputation with all my surgeries.” Dr. Ward’s goal is to have your breast implant placement right the first time and it is very uncommon in his practice to re-do his own surgery. Our office has a large selection of both saline and silicone breast implants for you to come in and try on for size. We offer a second consultation with the back office to confirm size and to go over all your concerns.
SURGICAL APPROACH
Dr. Ward prefers an inframmary incision which is made in the natural fold of the breast, and the implants to be placed under the muscle. The advantages of the inframmary incision are the following: (1) It is the most popular incision used by plastic surgeons. (2) The recovery from this incision typically has less pain. (3) Fewer healing problems and able to return to normal activities sooner. (4) This incision can always be re-used for change of implant size. A well performed inframmary incision creates a pocket for the implant and allows the implant to migrate to the correct location without usage of a sports bra and bandage after surgery.
Consultations
During the consultation you will meet with Dr. Ward first to discuss any questions or concerns you have about breast augmentation surgery. From there you will be taken back into an exam room where Dr. Ward will then determine if you are a candidate for breast augmentation. He will show you his before and after portfolio and you will try on the different implants sizes in front of the mirror. Dr. Ward maintains a complete inventory of saline and silicone implants. During your consultation you can try on and model these implants helping to make your size choice as accurate as possible. This has been the best way for patients to select the right size of breast impants to be happy with their decision.
Dr. Ward has been practicing for over 25 years and has performed thousands of breast augmentation surgeries. His practice is based on patient referrals; therefore it is important for Dr. Ward to give you the best quality of breast surgery followed by comprehensive post operative care. We are on call for our patients 24 hours seven days a week. All breast surgeries are seen afterwards at one, two, and six weeks, as well as a yearly check-up, with no additional cost to the patient.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I decide on the implant size?
Dr. Ward will review a portfolio of Breast implant surgeries to help you decide on size. He will also show you the various implant sizes and discuss which size is suitable in regards to your chest size, breast shape and the amount of breast tissue you have. You will try on sizes of breast implants in the office.
What kind of bra do I use afterwards?
Dr. Ward suggests that you wear a soft bra or camisole for at least one month. Wearing a bra too soon can cause the incision to become irritated and could potentially cause the scar to keloid (become hardened or raised).
Do I need a mammogram before breast surgery?
If you are over the age of 35, Dr. Ward requires you to have a routine mammogram screening for all Breast surgeries. You have the option to decline a mammogram however, you must sign a waiver.
BREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY
Within a day or two after surgery you are up and around. The discomfort you feel is usually muscle pain and can be controlled by using Ibuprofen and some pain medication. Within 3 days to one week you may return to non-strenuous work.
