Fat Injections
Fat Transfer Procedure
Dr. Ward can use your own fat to improve the appearance of your facial areas by moving fat from another area needed such as your knees or thigh areas where it is less needed. This procedure is known as fat injections or fat transfer and can dramatically improve your facial cheek area or folds which have lost tissue volume due to aging. Typically, the fat transfer results in an increase in volume of the body site being treated. A special fat instrument kit prepares the fat in a specific way, used to harvest the fat before it is replaced back in the body. The fat is then placed into the desired area by using a smaller cannula (by a small needle). Since some of the fat that is transferred may not maintain its volume over time, Dr. Ward may inject more than is needed at the time to achieve the end result. Over weeks the amount of transferred fat will gradually decrease giving you the desired results.
Stem Cell Fat Injections Surgery
The face ages in basically 3 phases: surface aging of the skin, sagging of the skin and loss of facial fat or atrophy. A facelift can address the sagging component but fat injections allow me to treat the atrophy compenent and the advantage of this is the patient gets a lift and also volume rejuvenation. Fat injections of your own body stem cells gives Dr. Ward the addition of volume loss that a facelift never addressed. Fat injections can be done with or without a facelift surgery but are a better result to patients when combined with facelift procedures. The facelift corects sagging folds and neck skin and the fat injections restore lost volume and the softness we have in our youth years.
The advantage of using the patients autologous tissue rather than alternative injectable fillers is that the fat grafts are not as temporary as fillers. In addition the fat also contains adult stem cells that produce various important growth factors.
The grafted fat is often harvested from the thighs and knees where fat doesn't thin with age. Fat tissue is very fragile and about half the fat survives the process so it is important to explain this to patients.
Fat injections can be a good alternative for patients wishing to have a secondary facelift. It can give added fat for loss of volume and this may be enough improvement.
Stem Cell fat injections are a time consuming process and requirements can be artistically demanding but can give patients a good result for loss of volume and overall facial rejuvenation.
