Laser Resurfacing

The Erbium laser is used to treat aging and sun-damaged skin to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance.  Erbium laser skin resurfacing removes superficial and moderately deep facial wrinkles, as well as improves deeper wrinkles.  Dr. Ward uses the Erbium laser to gently vaporize the damaged skin layers, which stimulates the production of collagen, thus resulting in tightening and smoothing of the skin.  Many clients chose to have laser surfacing for an improvement of lines around the mouth and under the eyes.  A combination of laser resurfacing and facelift surgery is very common in Dr. Ward's practice and provides the patient with the very best improvement if needed.

Dr. Ward utilizes the state of the art Sciton Erbium laser to perform skin resurfacing in his facility's operating room as an outpatient procedure.  As compared to other lasers, the Sciton Erbium laser results in less post-operative redness and swelling.  This leads to a more rapid healing time with a shorter recovery time for the patient.  Most patients are fully recovered and can resume normal activities within 8 to 10 days.  During the postoperative period, the treated facial areas are kept moist with Crisco.  Patients can normally resume wearing make-up after 10 to 12 days.  Our Aesthetician provides a prepping Retin-A cream for use before surgery and provides camouflage make-up to help conceal redness afterwards.  It is very important to use sun protection for 2 to 3 months following Erbium laser resurfacing.  During the first few weeks following the laser resurfacing, the pink skin will fade to normal tone with a softer, smoother and younger looking appearance.
