LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction is a procedure that helps with body contouring by removing unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. Dr. Ward regularly performs liposuction in the hips, thighs, buttocks and abdomen areas. However it can also be helpful in the upper arms, chin, knees, and neck areas. The tumescent technique provides patients with more precise results, smaller incisions, and a quicker recovery time. Liposuction is not a substitute for dieting and exercise. It is very helpful in removing localized areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight loss methods. The best candidate for liposuction are normal weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas. At your initial consultation Dr. Ward will evaluate your body fat condition and use his best surgical judgment to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will I have scars from liposuction of the hips and thighs?
Liposuction is increasingly popular because it is a relatively simple technique that leaves small scars, often only one-half inch long.
How do you perform the tumescent liposuction procedure?
A cannula (a small metal tube) is inserted through a small incision in the skin. The suction is accomplished by vacuum pressure that suctions off excess fat.
LIPOSUCTION RECOVERY
Liposuction is performed in an out-patient facility and after the procedure is finished recovery is done at home. The areas that have liposuction are generally sore for several days. A compression garment is usually worn a few weeks after surgery. Patients return to normal daily routine after one week.
